FLOODS
Flood Stage during this time frame is 52'. Flooding of 58' or more since 1914 to 1972 occurred in 1918, 1927, 1933, 1936, 1937, 1939, 1940, 1943, 1945, 1948, 1950, 1952, 1955, 1958, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1967. From this you can see why Coney Island was finally forced to move out of the flood area to King's Mills, Ohio. All floods look pretty much the same so I am just showing a couple of these floods. By the way, just like the first day of Coney's operation, it also rained on the last day of operation.

THE 'NEW' CONEY ISLAND
After Coney Island closed in 1971 the only part of the park that remained open in 1972 was Sunlite Pool. Coney would not die and owners began to reopen the picnic grounds and the miniature golf course. They then opened a dance hall and began to add rides. Today's attendance figures are said to be around 1 million a year. This year (2011) will mark the 125th year of operation, thus making it the nations 6th oldest amusement park.
The new Coney has the same problems as the old Coney.
In the 1980's Coney Island started to re-open some of their "classic" attractions.
